LARRY W. CARROLL GOVS FUND
The purpose of the Larry W. Carroll Govs Funds is to provide a valuable experiential-learning opportunity for students and allow them to explore their passions in finance and investments by enabling them to manage an investment portfolio.
The opportunity to be a Student Portfolio Manager is open to all APSU CoB students. At the beginning of each academic year, the Faculty Govs Funds Advisors will meet to select students from a pool of applicants. The Student Portfolio Managers will work closely with the Faculty Govs Funds Advisors to achieve the purpose and investment objective of the Govs Funds.

Chrysanna Kolinski Bruce, President
Chrysanna Bruce is a senior majoring in Finance & Accounting with an expected graduation
date of May 2019. Chrysanna is a member of the Accounting Society of Austin Peay and the Volunteer Income
Tax Assistance Program. Chrysanna was invited to present at the Tennessee Valley
Authority Investment Challenge in spring 2017.
Due to her strong commitment to academic success, Chrysanna was named to the Dean’s List throughout her time at Austin Peay. Upon graduation, Chrysanna looks forward to helping clients with their accounting and financial needs in the workplace. As president of the Govs Fund program, Chrysanna ensures that the group stays on task to accomplish goals and meet deadlines. Chrysanna is responsible for making the final decisions about portfolio allocations based on research and input from her team members.
Matthew O’Brien, Vice President
Matthew O’Brien is a senior majoring in Finance and is expected to graduate in May
2020. He is a Finance enthusiast who enjoys seeking out different challenges, experiences,
and opportunities. His academic performance has earned him recognition for being in
the top 5% of students within the College of Business for the academic year of 2017-2108.
Before attending Austin Peay State University, Matthew O’Brien was enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served from February 2013 to February 2017. As a Marine Corps Sergeant, he was awarded the “Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal” due to his professional achievement in the superior performance of his duties.
When he is out of the classroom environment, he enjoys spending time with his family, exploring the scenery of Nashville, and appreciating his love for sports, especially football. He is currently participating in a local financial analysis competition with the CFA Institute for the Greater Tennessee area, known as the CFA Institute Research Challenge. Amanda Erdman, Communications Director
Amanda Erdman is a senior at Austin Peay State University and will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in finance. Originally from Appleton, Wisconsin, Amanda lived in Fayetteville, North Carolina before moving to Clarksville, Tennessee. In the year following graduation, Amanda plans to move to the east coast and will follow her pursuit of working in the field of financial analysis.
Amanda has had the honor of being named on the Dean's List each of her semesters at Austin Peay and is a member of the Tau Sigma National Honors Society for Transfer Students. Amanda serves as the Communications Director for the Govs Fund where she enjoys interacting with her classmates and discussing the challenges and excitement of following the performance of the portfolio. Amanda also participated in the CFA Research Challenge this past February and spent five months constructing a research report and valuation of Pinnacle Financial Partners. The Govs Fund and the CFA Research Challenge have been valuable learning experiences and Amanda is excited to apply her knowledge in the corporate world of finance.
Amanda enjoys an active lifestyle exploring Tennessee with her husband and dogs. She loves trying new restaurants in Nashville and attempting to master her cooking skills. She is excited for her future endeavors and values the opportunity to serve as the Govs Fund Communications Director.
Michael (Griffin) Dove, Equity Funds Lead Analysts
Griffin Dove is a junior at Austin Peay State University pursing a Bachelor of Business
Administration in Accounting. Griffin is expected to graduate in May of 2020. Upon
graduation, Griffin plans to sit for the CPA Exam and work in the public accounting
Along with the Govs Fund, Griffin is the president of the Accounting Society at Austin Peay. Griffin is a tax preparer for Austin Peay's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program and works part-time as a student technician with Austin Peay’s GovsTech.
Blake Streeter, Fixed Income Funds Lead Analysts
Blake Streeter is a junior at APSU, and is currently majoring in Finance. He received
his Associates degree from Dyersburg State Community College in 2016, and is planning
to graduate from APSU in May of 2020. Blake is looking for any potential financial
career, but is currently specifically focused on a career in financial planning in
or around the Nashville area. He is the Bonds Group leader of the Govs Fund, and has
assisted in choosing bonds as well as equity investments for the portfolio. Blake
has also assisted missionaries in West Africa through the United Pentecostal Church
International, and is currently involved with Goodlettsville Pentecostal Church in
David Ritchie, Derivative Securities Lead Analysts
David Ritchie is a senior majoring in Accounting, and is expected to graduate in May
2019. Spending a few years in the Marine Corps as a KC-130 mechanic, his love for
economics drove him to work as a bank teller and then a bookkeeper for a law firm.
Soon with his accounting degree, he plans to work as a bank examiner. He has ambitions
to open his own bank in the future. His interest in Finance brought him to the Govs
Fund where he learned more about derivatives than he ever could have on his own. Close
work with the advisors was his main praise for the program. “I felt time with our
advisor really brought home the lessons I learned.”
Selection of Faculty Advisors to the Govs Funds
The Dean of the College of Business selects members of the Faculty Govs Funds Advisors, representing various disciples with the College. The Advisors will provide direct oversight of and guidance to the Student Portfolio Managers including:
- Providing training on Bloomberg, Morningstar, and other investment information systems,
- Meeting with students, individually and as a whole, to offer guidance and answer questions, and
- Creating and staying current in the investment guidelines.
All transactions within the Govs Funds portfolio will be approved by the Faculty Govs Funds Advisors to ensure compliance with the investment objective and guidelines.
Once per academic semester, the Student Portfolio Managers will report on the Govs Fund’s performance and present the report to:
