What will I learn?
Engineering Physics is the interdisciplinary study of physics, mathematics, and engineering with a particular emphasis on developing advanced techniques to solve complex, real-world problems. The engineering physics curriculum includes an emphasis on engineering design, much like a traditional engineering program, while also including more advanced physics than a typical engineering degree. Engineering physicists are best suited to applying new technologies to problems in engineering design and manufacturing where established mechanical or electrical engineering approaches are inadequate. Engineering physicists typically work in high-tech industrial and manufacturing settings on teams with engineers and engineering technologists to solve real-world design and implementation problems.
What engagement opportunities are available to APSU students?
Besides research opportunities at APSU, approximately 70% of our students are successful in securing summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REUs) positions at other institutions. REU positions typically pay between $3000-$5000 for 10 weeks of work in the summer (more during the academic term). APSU physics majors have been accepted to prestigious REU programs at CERN, ORNL, Cornell and Princeton.
What Do Engineering Physics Majors Do After Graduation?
Engineering Physics is also excellent preparation for graduate study in an engineering discipline or physics.
