The units under the Senior Vice Provost and Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs area pride themselves on teamwork.

There is a core team and several units within the Senior Vice Provost and Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs area. The directors of these units and a link to their unit's team webpage are shown below.

Dr. Tucker Brown is the Senior Vice Provost and Associate Vice President of Academic Affairs and reports directly to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. Dr. Brown's primary responsibilities include:

  • Academic Program Liaison to THEC
  • Accreditation Liaison to SACSCOC
  • Chair Leadership Program
  • Curriculum Development and Approval
  • Data Governance
  • Faculty Development
  • Faculty Evaluation Processes
  • Faculty Qualifications/Credentials
  • Faculty RTP Policies and Procedures
  • Policy Development
  • Pre-Semester Calendar
  • Program Accreditation
  • Support for Academic Affairs Committee of the APSU Board of Trustees

Dr. Brown supervises the following academic units:

  • Quality Enhancement Plan
  • Decision Support and Institutional Research
  • Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment, including Quality Assurance Funding (QAF)
  • Center for the Advancement of Faculty Excellence

Jasmine O'Brien Ι Curriculum Coordinator, Academic Affairs
Jasmine O’Brien holds a Master of Professional Studies and Bachelor of Science degree from Austin Peay State University. Jasmine joined the Academic Affairs staff in May of 2017 after working in the Office of the Registrar for 11 years. In her current role as Curriculum Coordinator, she is responsible for overseeing the development and modification of all program and course offerings at Austin Peay State University and working with Faculty to ensure compliance with THEC curriculum processes and SACSCOC policies related to Degree Requirements, Substantive Change and Credit Hour.

Lisa Phelps Ι Senior Administrative Assistant
Lisa has been employed with Austin Peay State University since 2004, beginning in the Center for Extended & Distance Education. She joined the Academic Affairs team in 2016 where she serves in the role of Senior Administrative Assistant.

Kyle Christmas
Kyle Christmas Ι Director of Special Projects
Kyle Christmas serves as the Director of Special Projects and joined the APSU team in March 2021. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in English, Master of Arts in Teaching, and Master of Arts in English from Austin Peay State University. Prior to working in higher education, Kyle spent nine years in secondary education, teaching Honors and Advanced Placement English courses and serving 6th-12th grade students in a variety of capacities.

Troy Priest
Troy Priest Ι Director of the Quality Enhancement Plan
Troy Priest is the Director of the Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) at Austin Peay State University. Troy has over 20 years of teaching and administrative experience in higher education. He has taught and worked in universities in the United States, South Korea, and the United Arab Emirates. His professional experience includes creating and evaluating faculty development programs, curricular development and assessment, communities of practice, and leading institutional pedagogical research projects. He has an MA in applied linguistics from the University of Louisville, a postgraduate certificate from the University of British Columbia in Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Leadership, and is currently a PhD doctoral candidate in the Higher Education Research, Evaluation, and Enhancement program at Lancaster University in the United Kingdom.

Andrew Luna Ι Executive Director for Decision Support and Institutional Research (DSIR)
Dr. Andrew Luna joined the APSU team in 2018 and is the Executive Director for Decision Support and Institutional Research. He has served in higher education for over 35 years with 25 of those years in the field of institutional research, effectiveness, and planning. Dr. Luna earned his Ph.D. and Master’s degrees in higher education administration as well as his Master’s and Baccalaureate degrees in journalism all from the University of Alabama.

Melissa Kates Ι Director of the Center for the Advancement of Faculty Excellence
Melissa Kates has been with Austin Peay State University since 2003 and currently serves as Associate Professor of Health and Human Performance in the College of Behavioral and Health Sciences. She began her three year, eleven month appointment as Director of the CAFE on June 15, 2021.

Amanda Wornhoff Ι Director of Institutional Effectiveness & Assessment (IEA)
Dr. Amanda Wornhoff is the Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment and joined the APSU community in 2020. She has experience in curriculum, assessment, faculty affairs, and student success. Prior to working in university administration, Dr. Wornhoff taught and directed undergraduate writing. As a first-generation college student, she is committed to providing accessible, high-quality learning experiences to all students, regardless of background. She holds an Ed.D. in higher education leadership and policy from Vanderbilt University and an M.A. in English from Roosevelt University in Chicago.
