Tim Self is an Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Hospitality Administration
Program at Austin Peay State University. Prior to joining APSU, Dr. Self was an Assistant
Professor at UNLV in their Hospitality College for three years. Dr. Self earned his
Ph.D. in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Purdue University, his Master's from
University of Alabama and his Bachelor's from California State University, Chico.
Prior to entering academia, Dr. Self was a recruiter in Atlanta, GA where he worked
with Fortune 500 companies and he also worked in restaurants and hotels, including
as front office manager at Radisson Hotels in Shanghai, China. Dr. Self's primary
research areas are in employee attraction and retention in the hospitality industry.
He has published in the Cornell Hospitality Quarterly, The Journal of Hospitality
& Tourism Research, The International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management,
International Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Administration, Journal of Human Resources
in Hospitality & Tourism, and Journal of Hospitality & Tourism Education. He is an
active member of the International Council of Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional
Education (I-CHRIE). Dr. Self is also a Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) designated
by the American Hotel and Lodging Association.
