Staying true to Austin Peay State University's mission, the Office of Human Resources (HR) expands on its existing Learn.Grow.Lead. program to offer collaborative opportunities with members in and outside of the campus community to promote expansion of resources and leadership.

Military Spouse Partnership

Austin Peay State University recognizes and appreciates the sacrifices our service members have made and continue to make for our country and our community.  We also know many of these service members rely on the support of their spouses and family members.  The Office of Human Resources at Austin Peay State University is excited to announce our Military Spouse Partnership.  This cohort program aims to supply professional development, one-on-one support, and targeted training to military spouses looking to enter (or re-enter) the job market.

For questions about the program, please contact the Office of Human Resources at humanresources@apsu.edu or by phone at 931-221-7177.

Participants must attend all six sessions below in order to receive the certificate of completion. Sessions will be held via Zoom.

Week 1, "Personal Brand Workshop": Have you ever wondered how you are perceived by others? In this workshop, participants will discuss their personal brand and explore how their talents and experience can shape their professional image.

Week 2, "Career Assessment Training": Using the High5 and StrengthsFinder assessments, this workshop will help focus on the personal strengths you bring to your work, how to maximize those strengths, and what possibilities are open to you.

Week 3, "Commander vs. Supervisor": The intricacies of translating military lingo to civilian jargon.  This workshop will assist you in translating your current experiences and skills to effectively obtain civilian positions.

Week 4, "Resume Writing": It can be difficult to summarize your accomplishments. In this workshop, participants will learn the importance of a professional resume, tips on how to write an effective federal resume, and tips on how to show their experiences.

Week 5, "You, Your Resume, and Social Media": Why do you need LinkedIn? What do employers want to see when they search for you on social media (because they will!)?  In this workshop, participants will learn the best way to utilize their professional social media to get noticed by employers and some helpful tools to utilize along the way.

Week 6, "Interviewing Skills & How to Stand Out in the Applicant Pool": Now that you have some tools in your tool belt, learn how you can stand out in the applicant pool and how to ace your interviews.
