Frequently Asked Questions about the Military Student Center

  1. Do I have to be Military Affiliated to use the Military Student Center (MSC)?
    - No, the MSC, it's programs and events, are open to all students regardless of Military Affiliation. Please come visit our center, attend our events, and utilize our programs!
  2. What is the Texts for Vets(TFV) Program?
    - The Texts-For-Vets program was established by the MSC to help APSU students overcome the financial burden of purchasing textbooks; our textbooks are available only because of donations made by APSU students, faculty, staff, and community members alike. Everything we offer is free of charge, first-come-first-served, and all we ask is that the resources we loan are treated well and returned!
  3. How Does the TFV Program  work?
    - The TFV works like a library. Check our online book list under the TFV tab on the left, read the requirements, and fill out one application per requested text book. We will call you when your requests are ready for pick up, you will need your student i.d. to receive your text book(s). For more information about this process please visit this link: https://www.apsu.edu/msc/texts-for-vets/index.php and refer to the information within those tabs.
  4. What if the book I need is not on the online book list?

    - The TFV program is completely dependent upon donations, and sometimes we just don’t get the donations we need for every book. If we don’t have it you will have to purchase it, conveniently at the APSU Bookstore on campus or here: https://apsu.bncollege.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/BNCBHomePage?storeId=88631&catalogId=10001&langId=-1

  5. Can the MSC help me with my GI Bill?

     - Our staff may be able to assist you with some questions regarding your GI Bill/VA benefit, but the MSC does not process GI Bills/VA benefits. The VA office on campus would be better suited to assist you, they can be found in Ellington 202 or here: https://www.apsu.edu/veterans-affairs/ , as well as contacted via email at: OVA@apsu.edu or phone: (931) 221-7760

  6. Where is the MSC located?
    - We are located in room 120 in the Morgan University Center; it is on the 1st floor, behind the post office.
  7. Are MSC events open to all students?

    - Yes, everything the MSC does, barring the Military and Veteran Graduate Recognition Ceremony, is open to all students regardless of military affiliation. (most events are catered!)

  8. Can the MSC help with calculators/technology required for my courses?

    - Not any more. The MSC has transferred our calculators and clickers to our friends over at the Wilbur N. Daniel African American Cultural Center (WNDACC), and they reserve our donated calculators for military affiliated students, but also loan to all students. You can visit them here to learn more about their center and programs: https://www.apsu.edu/aacc/

  9. Can the MSC help me with my Resume?

    - Our staff can glance over it and give our unprofessional opinions, but fortunately APSU has the Office of Career Services to assist students full-time with that, and much more! Visit their website: https://www.apsu.edu/careers/ to learn more about their programs and services or give them a call (931) 221-6544

  10. When do my classes get dropped? (IMPORTANT DATES)

    - That depends upon the semester you applied for; check the Student Account Services page and select your current term to see all the important dates related to when classes drop, the fee-adjustment calendar, etc. https://www.apsu.edu/student-account-services/

  11. How do I confirm classes?

    - It’s really quite simple, but there are a number of steps to make sure you confirm and your classes don’t get dropped, so please refer to this convenient checklist: https://www.apsu.edu/registrar/resources/confirm.php

  12.  Does the MSC offer tutoring services?

- While the MSC has a number of experienced students in its employ, that may assist you with some aspects of a course that they have personally taken, it would be advantageous for you to visit the Academic Support Center in Marks 124. They can be reached at (931) 221-655 or e-mail learningctr@apsu.edu or by visiting their website: https://www.apsu.edu/lrc/tutoring/index.php
