About Us

Student Publications is home to APSU's award-winning student newspaper and online news source, The All State. In addition to The All State, the department collaborates with other areas of campus to develop marketing and promotion materials as well as producing and distributing the Student Handbook & Calendar each year.

Our staff is among the most diverse on campus. We have students of many majors and backgrounds. We offer a wealth of opportunities to learn, get valuable experience in many different fields, meet other APSU students and learn by doing what you enjoy. 2021-21 National & Regional Awards

The All State earned several awards during the 2020-21 year:

2021 Southeast Journalism Conference

8th Place

Best Sports Writer 
Judged on the submission of up to three sports articles in any combination of game stories, sports news stories, sports features and columns that have appeared on a sports page.

Judged on the submission of up to three op ed/perspectives articles.

Maisie Williams

Best Arts and Entertainment Writer 
Judged on the submission of up to three stories covering arts and entertainment topics, including reviews and arts columns.

Submissions included Black History Month events and a Perspectives piece on the impact of virtual events.

National Pacemaker Award

In October 2020, Maisie Williams also earned national recognition for The All State with an individual honorable mention national Pacemaker award in the Newspaper Front Page competition from the Associated Collegiate Press. The ACP Pacemaker awards are the preeminent national collegiate journalism awards. Her submitted work, “Govs make history with first home football playoff game win,” featured a full, front-page image depicting the emotion of the historic win.    

      

2019-20 National & Regional Awards

During the 2019-2020 academic year, The All State earned two national awards at the National College Media Convention in Washington, D.C., and three regional awards at the Southeast Journalism Conference with their special edition of the tornado that hit Clarksville and campus earning first place for Best Special Event in the Best of the South competition.

National College Media Convention, Washington, D.C., Oct. 31 – Nov. 3, 2019

Dr. Tracy Nichols, Professor of Communication, accompanied three student staff: Ashley Thompson, Courtney McCormick, and Maisie Williams to the conference. Over 250 sessions were offered in a wide variety of topics from professional journalists, media educators, advisers, and students.

These awards are significant since they are national awards competing with top programs and many submissions from across the country.
